Studying in Spain for more than 90 days

If you’re planning to study Spanish in Spain for more than 90 days, you’ll need to apply for a Long Term Student Visa (Type D). This visa is designed for students enrolled in extended Spanish courses and allows you to stay in Spain legally for the full duration of your studies.

It also offers the possibility of renewing your visa from within Spain and, in some cases, applying for internships or part-time work. To meet the visa requirements, you must enroll in a full-time course of at least 20 hours per week at an accredited center like Proyecto Español, which provides all the official documents needed for your application.

In addition to helping with the paperwork, Proyecto Español can assist you in finding accommodation during your stay. Whether you prefer a shared apartment with other international students or a more immersive experience living with a Spanish host family, we’ll help you find the best option. We can also arrange airport transfer, so you’ll feel welcomed and supported from the moment you land in Spain.

Apply for a visa to study while you are in Spain

It’s important to note that if you’re taking a short Spanish course for less than 90 days do not need a visa to study Spanish in Spain (depending on the applicant’s nationality, a short-stay visa may be required).

Another option for international students is to apply for a student visa after arriving in Spain, as long as you enter the country legally. You can travel to Spain on a 90-day tourist visa and then start the process to change your status to a student stay permit. You have up to 60 days from your arrival to submit your application at the nearest Foreigners’ Office.

At Proyecto Español, we strongly recommend contacting us before your arrival or visiting us during your first days in Spain. Our team will provide you with all the necessary information and personalized legal guidance, free of obligation, to help you with confidence.
