Travel insurance

Medical insurance for your stay in Spain

It is essential that you have valid medical insurance during your stay in Spain to guarantee your wellbeing.

  • If you are a resident of the European Union: You can use the European Health Insurance Card to extend your medical coverage in Spain. If you have private health insurance, check with your health insurance company to see if it covers you abroad or if you can extend it.

  • If you are a non-EU resident: You must take out private medical insurance to cover any eventuality during your stay in Spain.

What is the difference between health insurance and travel insurance?

It is important to know the differences between these two insurances:

  • Travel insurance: Designed for short trips (less than 3 months). Covers cancellations, lost luggage and medical emergencies.

  • Medical insurance: Designed for long stays. It offers more complete coverage, including primary medicine, diagnostic tests, hospitalisation and surgical interventions.

Our recommendation

We recommend Sanitas international student health insurance, designed for students between 18 and 35 years old. It offers full coverage from day one, including primary care, specialists, hospitalisation and diagnostic tests, with access to the extensive Sanitas network throughout Spain.

This insurance is recognised by most consulates, facilitating the visa process. Be sure to confirm its acceptance at your consulate before your appointment.
